Dr. Lars Arendt-Nielsen

Lars Arendt-Nielsen is Professor, Dr. Med., Ph.D., and Head of Research at Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital in Denmark.
He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Aalborg University in 1987 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Aarhus University in 1994. He leads one of the world’s largest research groups in human translational experimental and clinical pain research, comprising over 50 researchers and clinicians from around the globe.
Renowned for his extensive scholarly contributions, he has published over 1,400 peer-reviewed journal articles and holds an H-index of 109. His work spans clinical and experimental pain neurobiology, pain assessment technologies, motor control and biomechanics, pain management, pain biomarkers, and the mechanistic profiling of chronic pain patients, particularly those with osteoarthritis.
He has supervised more than 85 Ph.D. students and has served as a guest professor in countries including Japan, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Romania, and the United States.
Professor Arendt-Nielsen has received more than 25 national and international honors, including a knighthood from the Danish Queen. Most recently, he was named an Honorary Fellow of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland. From 2018 to 2020, he served as President of the International Association for the Study of Pain.
