We are delighted to announce that Director Paula Adam from the Research Lab at the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia will be joining the conference on Day 2 as one of the panelists in the breakout session on Leadership for Change

Paula Adam is the Director of the Research Lab at the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia, a public organization of the Department of Health, Catalan Government. She specializes in research impact assessment and management, transformative science, and formative evaluation.

In 2013, Paula co-founded the International School on Research Impact Assessment (ISRIA). Between 2015 and 2017, she served as Coordinator and President of the Commission for the Accreditation of Clinical Institutes at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. She is currently a member of the Research Impact Assessment Advisory Board of CERCA and the Research Impact Working Group of the Catalan Government. Over the past years she has participated in a number of research impact assessment exercises applied to research programmes.

Her key publications include the "ISRIA Statement: Ten-Point Guidelines for Effective Research Impact Assessment" (2018), a chapter on research impact in The Estate of Science in Catalonia (2024), and contributions to Cornerstones of Impact Management (2025). She also trains in a number of programmes oriented to researchers, impact officers and project managers.

Session outline for Leadership for Change

This thematic session engages with some of the key institutions in Europe and beyond who have been instrumental in experimenting with new metrics, indicators, and assessment frameworks. Highlighting the need for integrity, rigor, quality, and impact in science, the session takes a closer look at some of the leading institutions in the reform of research assessment. The session is designed to promote peer learning and leave the participants with genuine inspiration to embark on similar exercises and experiments at the local and national level. Institutional leadership and leading by example are the guiding principles for the session.
